Music consumption among teenagers is rather phenomenal. This group could more or less become one of today’s potential customers of the recording industry. Whilst technology has been rapidly advancing and considerably accessible to all, online media platforms have become the most popular channels for teenagers to auditorily appreciate a variety of music genres at time and places of their conveniences. However, the phenomena toward how the adolescents consume their music have not yet been offered much attention in research corpora in Thailand. This present study therefore aimed at investigating how teenagers nowadays substantially spend their time-consuming music in their daily life. A survey was conducted among a total number of 275 Thai adolescents schooling in grades 7 and 10 at Chulalongkorn University Demonstration School in Thailand. A variety of music genres along with a wide range of online media platforms accessible to teenagers were also accentuated in the survey. Besides, the study yielded data pertaining to an overview toward how the adolescents enjoyed their leisure time consuming music, primarily with whom they did the pastime, how many hours of music listening they spent, when and where they listen to music, and which types of musical preferences and tastes they held. The study suggested that Thai teenagers spend their time listening to a variety music genre: recent Thai most popular songs, for instance. The social factor that held the greatest impact on teenagers is the persons who play an increasing role in the activity. They regularly listen to music by themselves and often with their friends. YouTube application is the most popular online channel for music listening nowadays. The data revealed that teenagers listen to music almost every day. The prime time is between 6 PM to 9 PM. The average time of music listening is 2 hours per session. Meanwhile, the favorite place to listen to music is at home. The findings provide a considerable amount of variant data for music educators to rethink and reshape music curriculum, along with music listening repertoire that may more or less suit the needs of teenagers at the present time, as well as to re-enhance music listening atmosphere to become the most suitable for their musical preferences and tastes. In addition, the research unfolded insightful current trend for music educators, parents, and music marketers to recognize teenagers’ behaviors toward music consumption of the 21stcentury.
