Name
Using Digital Spaces to Increase the Impact of Music Education
Date & Time
Tuesday, July 28, 2026, 1:50 PM - 2:50 PM
Description
It’s long been known that necessity is the mother of invention. The process of identifying an educational need, information gathering, workshopping solutions, upskilling, implementation and review can be a means by which educational outcomes can be improved. Creating digital spaces readily available to students can aid in the pursuit of increased engagement and the flow-on effect of music education advocacy. This workshop outlines the process used in a primary music classroom setting to encourage students to take the learning from the classroom into their home practice space, providing opportunities for increased engagement, reinforcement of learnt skills, extension, and an invitation to share and promote music education. In doing so, a valuable digital teaching resource with a long shelf life was created, one that remains easily accessible, promotes active music making, and has multiple applications. Participants will be guided through the process of creating a similar teaching resource from inception to creation. It is encouraged that participants bring an idea, need, question, or dilemma in preparation for the workshop as there will be opportunity to discuss and collectively explore solutions. This workshop has applications for those wishing to expand their teaching toolkit including classroom music teachers, instrumental teachers and ensemble leaders, and those who wish to use the digital space to improve musical outcomes.
