Name
Curriculum and Pedagogy for Beginning University Vocal Jazz Ensembles
Date & Time
Wednesday, July 29, 2026, 4:05 PM - 5:05 PM
Description
In this session, we’ll highlight some of the curricular content and strategies for teaching a beginning vocal jazz ensemble. Although my target has been largely with university students, I have worked on many of the same strategies with high school students, as well. We will explore some vocal techniques that make jazz singing unique, pedagogical strategies for improvisation, and some strategies for ensemble singing specific to jazz styling. Come prepared to try some of these strategies yourself and share some ideas that have worked for you!
