Description
Music education in rural China is often limited by a lack of resources an
d little attention to students’ emotional well-being. This study explores ho
w choral instruction based on positive psychology can support the positiv
e development of rural primary school students. A choral program using l
ocal folk songs and participatory singing activities was carried out in a rur
al primary school. Using a mixed-methods approach, the study collecte
d data through the EPOCH scale, classroom observations, and interview
s. The results showed improvements in optimism, hope, and self-efficacy.
Qualitative findings also suggested that choral activities helped student
s express their emotions and build a stronger sense of cultural connectio
n. This study suggests that choral instruction can be an effective and pract
ical way to support music education in rural schools.
