Description
In the contemporary context of global cultural integration and growing local cultural consciousness, school music education has been entrusted with the significant mission of preserving national culture and strengthening cultural identity. Based on the researcher’s two-year educational practice observations, this study focuses on students’ authentic learning experiences in a broad-field curriculum centered on ethnic music elements, aiming to provide an in-depth analysis of the actual effects of this curriculum model in enhancing students’ cultural experiences. This research proposes a new paradigm for broad-field curriculum design with ethnic music elements at its core. It integrates logically related subjects—such as music, fine arts, drama, and dance—into several key domains, and organizes instruction around children’s interests, needs, life experiences, and realities within these broad fields. With cultural identity as its spiritual core, interdisciplinary integration as its methodological foundation, and innovative practice as its implementation pathway, this paradigm seeks to transcend the limitations of traditional skill-based training and establish a comprehensive educational system that integrates cultural understanding, aesthetic experience, and creative competence. To realize the above vision, a systematic curriculum implementation framework has been developed:Systematic Curriculum Structure: Five instructional modules are designed in accordance with students’ cognitive development, forming a spiral progression from cultural perception and conceptual understanding to creative expression and promotion.In-Depth Integration of Music and Other Artistic Elements: Moving beyond superficial imitation of melodies, the curriculum delves into the analysis of ethnic musical systems, rhythmic patterns, structural forms, and the underlying local musical logic, and creatively integrates these into modern musical contexts in combination with elements from different art disciplines.Competency-Oriented Goal System: Clearly defined core competencies—cultural understanding, aesthetic judgment, artistic creativity, and social responsibility—guide both teaching and evaluation.Diverse and Dynamic Assessment Mechanisms: Combining formative and summative evaluations, the curriculum employs portfolios, performances, research reports, and interdisciplinary project defenses to comprehensively document and assess students’ developmental trajectories and competency growth. From construction to practice, this curriculum model adopts a narrative research approach across multiple authentic teaching contexts. It emphasizes not only knowledge transmission but also the holistic development of students in the dimensions of emotion, values, and creativity. It offers a practical pathway for realizing the “school-based” and “localized” implementation of regional music culture in basic education, and holds significant theoretical value and practical relevance for cultivating a new generation of individuals endowed with cultural depth and innovative spirit.
