Higher Music Education Institutions in Post-Digital Transformation - Reflections on Projects at University of Music Trossingen
Date & Time
Wednesday, July 29, 2026, 12:20 PM - 12:35 PM
Description
Four projects (MidiR, LEVIKO-XR, KuMuS-ProNeD, Netzwerk 4.0) at the Trossingen University of Music (https://www.hfm-trossingen.de/drittmittelprojekte) in the field of artistic and artistic-pedagogical music studies and music teacher training focus on fundamental and sustainable didactic transformation processes in teaching and learning with technologies in post-digital contexts at music higher education institutions from 2021 to 2026. The contribution reflects on the processes of transformation that are associated with this. The requirements for using digital and analogue technologies in teaching and learning vary between the different courses at music higher education institutions, and the spectrum of study objectives and content is broad. Study programs such as “Musikdesign” focus on digital technologies as a central subject of study. The examination of sound events and digital possibilities for their creation, storage, processing, measurement and presentation are a central aspect of the disciplines involved in various ways. At the same time, degree programmes focusing on an intensive examination of analogue technologies, such as early music, classical singing, violin etc… must also find their place in an increasingly digitalised world. In this context, digital technologies are assigned different meanings in teaching and learning as well as in the processes of digitalization.Making music across distances, individually supported digital learning processes, asynchronous learning via platforms, and digital communication and data management: music-related teaching and learning, along with the use of digital technologies, are changing for students, teachers and administrators alike. Furthermore, the momentum of discussions on digitalization has accelerated enormously in recent years. These topics are at the heart of the four projects. Based on these projects, practical approaches and didactic topics, at music higher education institutions, will be discussed in the context of didactic models (TPACK, Tetrahedron). Examples will be used to present developments of teaching-learning scenarios in the context of hybrid, digital and virtual environments in artistic practice (e.g., individual artistic lessons or chamber music) and other music-related areas of learning (e.g., music theory). Building on this, perspectives for future teaching-learning scenarios in the context of artificial intelligence and corresponding learning experience platforms (LXP) will be outlined.
