Description
This study looks at how digital tools can help in Korean traditional music education. I used Sonic Visualiser, a free program, to make the old garakseon method easier for students today. In Korean music, sigimsae (ornaments) and nonghyun (vibrato) are very important, but students often find them difficult if they only listen and copy the teacher. The 2022 revised curriculum also asks teachers to use digital tools and to support students’ musical literacy. For this reason, new teaching methods are needed.I planned the lessons with the ASSURE model. The students were university learners who already studied Korean music (Analyze Learners). The goal was to let them see the melodic lines and vibrato shapes of the teacher’s performance and compare with their own (State Objectives). I chose Sonic Visualiser as the main tool. With it, the recordings could be shown as lines and graphs that display pitch, vibrato, and frequency (Select/Utilize). Students listened and looked at the graphs together. They could see what is usually hidden in sound, and they used this to check and improve their practice (Require Learner Participation). At the end, I collected feedback and results to find what worked and what should be changed (Evaluate/Revise).The results show that Sonic Visualiser can refresh the garakseon method. It helps students learn faster, practice by themselves, and understand music more deeply. This study shows that tradition and technology can go together to keep Korean music alive and prepare it for the future.
