Concept-Based Music Creation Projects Using DAWs: Focusing on 'Form'
Date & Time
Monday, July 27, 2026, 4:05 PM - 4:35 PM
Description
This study aimed to design a 15-session creative project combining a concept-based curriculum (CBC) with a Digital Audio Workstation (DAW), enabling Year 5 and 6 primary school pupils to deeply understand and create the “form” of both Korean traditional music and Western music. This responds to the demand for a shift in educational paradigms within contemporary society. Based on theoretical reviews of CBC, edutech, and musical form, and following review by three experts, the project was structured into four stages: “Introduction-Exploration-Creation-Sharing and Evaluation”. This study contributes in three aspects. First, it expands CBC research by operationalizing subject-specific concepts in performance-centered disciplines such as music. Second, it reconceptualizes the DAW as a conceptual learning medium that enables the manipulation and visualization of abstract musical ideas. Third, it provides insights into cross-cultural music learning by examining Korean and Western musical forms through universal principles rather than superficial comparisons. Future research requires validating the educational effectiveness of this design model through its implementation in school settings and developing differentiated teaching and learning models through its expanded application across diverse year groups.
