In recent years, online music education has a rapid development depending on high technology such as internet. Many educators and students gradually accept this new teaching strategy. Many studies have investigated its advantages and disadvantage to a deep extent. They mainly emphasized that technical skills including internet connection is a significant factor of online music education, which will influence the quality of online teaching (Jæger and Blaabæk, 2020). In terms of the pedagogy of online music education, previous research pointed out that music educators shifted their teaching methods according to the characteristics of online education (Brandstrom et al ,2012). For the advantages of online music education, the flexibility of class location could be mentioned frequently in papers (Kruse et al, 2013). Nevertheless, there is few studies focused on comparison of situations of online music education in China and the UK. This study invited two music educators from China and the UK respectively to discuss about the circumstances of online music education in their countries. Our findings found that for online music education, there is a big difference in the UK and China. Specifically, educators from the UK and China have different requirements on sound quality. However, they all pointed some common advantages of online music education including low cost of community. This paper concluded the similarities and differences of online music education’s situation between these two countries and provided relate implications such as organizing training for educators and designing interesting online musical activities for online music education.
