As a cornerstone of local culture, Yu Opera is pivotal for transmitting Henan's intangible cultural heritage to youth. However, while many teenagers can hum its melodies, their understanding of its stories and cultural context remains superficial, leading to a perception of the art form as "unfashionable". This gap underscores a critical need for improved pedagogical design, aligning with Liang (2015) emphasis on connecting music to its socio-historical roots.This action research study investigates the design and implementation of engaging Yu Opera curricula in Henan's school music classrooms. It addresses three questions: (1) How can effective classroom components for Yu Opera be designed? (2) What obstacles arise during implementation, and how can they be overcome? (3) How can such a design enhance student interest?This study employed the action research method to investigate the research design. Based on the implementation in the classroom, the following situation has been learned: （1）Compared to different types of traditional Chinese opera, Henan teenagers have a relatively high interest in the local opera genre - Yu Opera. （2） Due to the lack of opportunities for students to learn about the stories behind the songs and the lack of innovative classroom teaching about traditional Chinese opera, Yu opera has been labeled as "old fashion" in the minds of students. （3）There are many obstacles in the implementation process, among which the teaching staff is the main obstacle to the implementation of Yu Opera classroom. Many teachers have expressed that they want to spread traditional culture but do not know how to design it.The study concludes that successful integration requires a paradigm shift towards culture-centric pedagogy. Future efforts must therefore prioritize providing educators with robust professional development focused on world music teaching methods. Equipping teachers with both deep cultural understanding and practical classroom strategies is essential for transforming student perceptions and fostering a genuine, lasting appreciation for Yu Opera.
