The rapid progression of population aging in China has intensified scholarly and policy interest in addressing the cultural, cognitive, and psychosocial needs of older adults. This project, “Silver Symphony” is an intergenerational music education initiative as a case for integrating virtual reality (VR) technologies with in-person pedagogical practices to enhance cognitive functioning, emotional well-being, and social connectedness among the elderly. The program employs a tripartite framework—immersive VR experiences and community-based music workshops to foster sustained engagement. VR components, including simulated concerts, section-specific instructional modules, and interactive conducting, stimulate interest and facilitate skill acquisition. These are complemented by offline activities such as instrument practice and choral performance.The project is within the broader discourse on lifelong learning and gerontechnology, noting the limitations of conventional elder education models in maintaining participation and motivation. The “Silver Symphony” model demonstrates innovation through its closed-loop design, embedded educational affordances, mechanisms for fostering cross-generational empathy, sustainable operational strategies, and the development of a community music map. Implementation proceeds in four sequential phases, from preparatory infrastructure and participant recruitment to public dissemination and model replication.Anticipated outcomes encompass both quantitative measures, such as increases in self-reported happiness, reductions in loneliness, improvements in cognitive performance indicators, and higher participation rates, and qualitative impacts, including the formation of community music networks, the production of digital works, and the documentation of participant narratives. Risk mitigation strategies address health, technological, engagement, and cost-related challenges, while diversified revenue streams and brand-oriented management underpin long-term viability.“Silver Symphony” initiative constitutes a replicable paradigm for the integration of technology, culture, and health in active aging strategies, offering substantive contributions to the development of the silver economy and the promotion of intergenerational solidarity.
