This poster explores my role as a culture bearer in facilitating Brazilian traditional music workshops and performances in Canadian schools. Drawing on years of experience as a percussionist and music educator, I reflect on pedagogical approaches that integrate Brazilian musical traditions into multicultural classroom settings. The focus of this poster presentation is to share lived experiences and practices that highlight the challenges, opportunities, and transformative potential of cultural transmission within music education. The poster presents two case examples developed in Quebec elementary schools. The first features workshops in which students engaged directly with Brazilian music, combining elements of Brazilian ethnopedagogy with principles of World Music Pedagogy. The second case highlights interactive performances that introduced students to a range of Brazilian genres, instruments, and songs. Through these interactive experiences, students not only explored Brazilian music but also reflected on broader cultural dimensions. Across both cases, the presence of a culture bearer appeared to play a significant role in bridging cultures and fostering inclusivity. By embodying and transmitting traditions, culture bearers bring authenticity, contextual knowledge, and lived cultural perspectives to music education. These contributions enable students to connect with diverse musical heritages, cultivate cultural awareness, and engage in meaningful cross-cultural dialogue.
